STELLARTON, NOVA SCOTIA – On Saturday, May 23, beginning at approximately 11am, the Stellarton Fire Department will be escorting Santa throughout the Town of Stellarton. It seems like an odd time for Santa to visit our town, but we’ve been told he takes COVID-19 prevention very seriously and wants to make sure we’re all following the rules!

To ensure that COVID-19 restrictions are still being followed, the department will be adhering to all provincial directives and will be taking the route that they do on December 24. This route travels directly into the neighbourhoods of residents, so individuals will not be required to leave their homes and can enjoy the visit directly from their yards or windows.

“As if a global pandemic wasn’t enough, our province has experienced significant loss. At this point, many people are losing their steam and struggling to find ways to stay busy,” said Mayor Danny MacGillivray. “We wanted to find a way to safely give our residents something small to look forward to and to show that we’re thinking of everyone during these challenging times. Using this specific route will allow for residents to stay in their own homes, practice physical distancing, but still see Santa drive by.”

If you are anticipating being out to see this event, ensure that you are following the directives set out by the province: Ensure that you are only with those in your household and those in your immediate bubble; if you are outside, ensure that you are 6ft or 2m from any individual outside of your bubble; and always practice good hygiene tactics like washing your hands, not touching your face, etc..

Let’s give Santa a warm, safe, Stellarton welcome and show him just how well we’ve been following provincial health and safety guidelines!
